Why don’t you offer Bootcamps?

The truth is, we did offer and run boot camps when we first opened.  We had about 18-20 people registered in them.  They are a good way to make easy money.  The problem: bootcamps contradict Fundy CrossFit’s philosophy that a commitment to fitness should be for the long term. They are focused on “getting thin” or “losing weight.”  Our focus is making people fitter. We want our members to get faster, stronger, more powerful and be generally better athletes. Our goal is to empower our members by teaching them the skills they need to make fitness part of their lives forever (not for just 6 weeks at a time), and help them reach their true athletic potential. Fundy CrossFit wants to focus on each and every member, to applaud their individual strengths, instill confidence, and help them improve upon the areas where they are most challenged. This commitment to long term fitness is simply not possible in a “bootcamp” style program.

What’s the vibe of the gym like?

Ever been to a gym where everyone knows you by name? Or knows it’s your birthday? That you just got a new job? That your little one is starting school this year? Have you ever been to a gym where anyone in the room has got your back whenever you need them? At Fundy CrossFit there is no judgment. We are a family-friendly, mature environment filled with members who share the same passion of a lifelong pursuit of fun and fitness! We were first in the area to offer a children’s and teen’s program and continue to be the only CrossFit Kids certified gym in the region. We have always embraced members of all ages creating a unique dynamic at our gym. So we would best characterize the “vibe” at Fundy CrossFit like a family reunion – there’s always lots of laughs, sometimes hugging, never-ending high fives, intense competition, and …… yup even rivalries (only friendly ones though!). We have an unparalleled sense of community that is fueled by families getting fit together.

What makes Fundy CrossFit different than other CrossFit gyms in the area?

We can’t speak for the other gyms.  When asked this question from prospective clients, we encourage anyone thinking of joining Fundy CrossFit to visit all of the prospective gyms. Sit in on a class from start to finish. Wait around after class to ask the coach some questions. The client’s and gym’s expectations must be in sync to achieve optimal happiness. Different CrossFit boxes offer varying experiences depending on their training philosophies, application of the CrossFit methodology and their focus on the services provided to members. Fundy CrossFit is, and always will be, intent on customer satisfaction and that is the distinction that we want to be known for. We respect our clients by always being punctual, consistent, and honest.  The Fundy CrossFit Team recognizes that our athletes come from varying levels of athletic achievements and factor that into the weight loads recommended for each and every member for each and every workout. We put our clients on a data driven approach to reaching their fitness goals in a realistic timeframe and under the safest possible circumstances. Feedback from our current membership, judging by retention rates, leads us to believe that our approach has been well received.

Why does CrossFit cost so much?

We provide a service that we feel is fairly priced.  We are not the cheapest gym in the area and not the most expensive.  We charge $113 per month including taxes.  If you come 15 times per month that only works out to about $7.50 per class.  If cost is an issue we post our workouts every day at fundycrossfit.ca and you can follow along for free from home or from a globogym.

I hear that CrossFit is dangerous. Is it?

There is risk associated with any physical activity.  The benefit of training at Fundy CrossFit gives you committed and experienced coaches that mandate a safety first philosophy. Our coaches must not only be certified Level 1 CrossFit Trainer but Fundy CrossFit also puts their coaching staff through a rigorous continuous improvement program so that the quality standard is always improving. Their job is to keep you safe while giving you an optimal fitness experience day after day.

I am female and I don’t want to get big and bulky.

It’s very difficult to gain a significant amount of muscle. Most CrossFit athletes, male and female, become lean, toned and carry much less body fat (more like the physique of a decathalete rather than a wrestler or a body builder).

Someone told me my hands will develop callouses. Is that true?

We use implements like barbells, gymnast rings and pullup bars. The exercises we do with them tend to be very grip intensive. As a result your grip will be much stronger, and a strong grip is great for a lot of athletic endeavors. As a result calluses will develop, but it isn’t anything gloves, tape or regular maintenance can’t cure. Ultimately the fitness gains outweigh a little extra skin on your hands.

CrossFit seems like a cult – why is that?

A cult seems to imply negative connotation. All we can say is that we are a group of like-minded of individuals who share a lifelong love of fitness.

CrossFit is for young and already fit people.

This is quite simply incorrect, everything we do is scalable.  We have had 60 year old grandfathers and grandmothers working out alongside 25 year old young men and women. We all do the same workout, but our job is to find that optimal workout experience for each of our clients. Some might jump on a really high box, some might jump on a lower box. Some might lift a lot of weight, some might lift very little weight. The coaching staff is always in search of that level of training that gives everyone that same level of relative intensity.
